I am a bankrupt. Is there any information anywhere which will help me get my credit rating back up?

I live the UK by the way so this will probably have different rules elsewhere.

There are ways to get it back. You just need to do the right steps.

Reply:my mom was in bankruptcy and she has gotten store credit cards with max's of maybe $500 a month and just pay that off and it will built your score up
Reply:Bankruptcy is a good tool to teach you how to manage credit properly (since you have no choice).

The best way to re-establish credit is through smaller credit card transactions first (gasoline cards, store cards, etc.). Some of the major credit card companies may send you applications, too.

These cards, however, usually charge a high interest rate. Never the less, you need to do something to establish a buying/paying pattern that will improve your credit. The high interest rate does not matter much if you pay off the balance each month, or just carry a small amount (like $50) from one month to the next. Again, it's about showing discipline to the credit card issuer. Eventually, they will increase your credit amount (you may have to ask for it after a year). Spend a little more, but be sure to continue to pay it off.

When you get those first cards, use them as much as possible- even if you would use cash- then pay them off each month. This is how you re-establish good credit.

Good luck!

Reply:In the US I know that this stays on your record for about ten years. But even then, the greedy credit card companies start mailing you offers after a year or so, albeit at a higher interest rate.

The only thing you can do, is to pay ALL your bills on time! Everything. Including utilities.

Don't go out and purchase things you cannot afford. Like a fancy car. Get one you can afford.

Don't get all the credit cards they send you. If they do that there. You will only get into trouble. Maybe keep just one for something small. Like get gas on it once a month. Then pay it off every month. That should raise a credit score. But don't be tempted to get more than one.

You just really have to watch how you live. You can't live above and beyond your means.

I hate it when people think I don't know how to handle my money. I really can. It's just that medical is so high! That was pretty much 99 % of my bankruptcy. I know how to handle my money. I just don't have enough coming in to do it. And I have 4 children. (Well, three at home now. My oldest just graduated Marine boot camp and doesn't live with us now.) And if they are sick or injured, I'm taking them to the doctor or hospital! No matter what that does to my credit.

Anyways, you just really have to remember to pay your utilities on time, car payment and only have the bare necessities of which you can afford.
