I have a bad credit rating. My mother doesn't.
My Mother wants to put my name on her credit card. I don't want her to discover I have bad credit.
Will the credit card company disallow her from putting me on her card as an extra name because of bad credit or wlill they not bother to check?
Bad Credit Rating Impliatons: Additional Card Holder For Mother?
She can add whoever she wants. It will not have any effect on your credit rating anymore. She is the one taking the risk by adding you.
Reply:The company will not do a credit check or verification if you are only added onto the account as an authorized buyer. This will also benefit you and help to raise your fico score because of the payment history. If she suggests adding you as a joint cardholder tell her no because then you WILL be liable for the account and payments and will most likely get declined. As a joint cardholder you will have to have good credit and share ownership of the account. Authorized buyers are automatically added onto the account and not responsible. I would however suggest fixing or correcting whatever may be hurting your score because there may come a time where your credit will have to be pulled and your mom will find out. Good luck!
