How can students apply for credit card when they have no credit rating to start with?

I just went through this about one month ago. I ended up with two cards. My own bank wouldn't even approve me. I got an American Express card from Costco and a Chase card. You can go to chase.com and they have cards for students to get, because everyone has to start somewhere. Or if you even go to any of the major cards' websites, they probably have cards for people who dont have credit. I looked through a lot of webpages and finally it paid off.

Some banks will usue credit cards to students with no credit rating just because they are a student. I have no idea why, but it just is. Try a major bank, and see what they come back with.
Reply:Don't do it. It all stars when you're in college. You get a credit card with the idea of paying it off each month. Then life happens, and you can't make the payment. You're being charge huge amounts of interest, and it just starts to pile up from there.

Pay cash, and live a life free of credit.
Reply:Hey,

Credit card companies come on campus and offer you a low credit line credit card. I got my card that way, and started my credit.

Credit cards can be evil if used the wrong way. Don't get dependant on them. Be careful of you balence. Debt can creep up on you before you know it. Keep it protected. Identities get stolen all the time. shred all mail after everything is paid of course!! lol

Credit cards are good for building credit, but also carry a huge responsibility, This is prob not something you want to hear, but it is the truth.
Reply:dont mate. its really not worth it.
Reply:Just don't.
Reply:Here in Canada, students open a bank acount, and before they know it, they have a credit card in the mail!
Reply:There are credit cards for students (having no credit), normal cards they just don't give you big limits.

You can find some here http://www.studentsandcredit.com ... after you have these cards and make payments, on time, for a while, you'll build your credit.
